The use of technology in class

Seema Akkawi
Methodology of Teaching
Dr. R. Mouhayar

Subject: Biology
Subject Matter: IVF
Level/Age/Grade: Grade 8, age 13-14
Time Over all: 15 min
Objective: To understand the meaning of IVF and how it is useful in certain cases moreover in what cases IVF is used and why…their learning from pervious lessons would allow them to distinguish between IVF and normal pregnancy and what the similarities between them are. Plus the students would learn to focus as in they would listen and observe at the same time in order to be able to do the activities.
Resources: Biology book, General Knowledge
Tools needed: computer, USB and black board, big screen
Skills: Being able to use the computer in general and how to put on the media player to show the video required, also how to save on the USB.
Learning/Task/Activity:
PRE: the class before one week would have been learning about reproduction and everything about it
DURING: the class will learn first about IVF what it means as it will be explained by the teacher so it links to their previous knowledge (5min) and then a video will be shown to the class to get a simpler and better understanding along with the activities that they will have to do after the video is over. (8 - 9min)
POST: the students would have met the objectives in the end and would have understood IVF
Closure: students would have learned something new in their Biology subject and homework would be what ever they were not able to finish in class.

The class could go on in the form of the teacher asking the students, what they have learnt the pervious lesson, then introduces the new topic of concept called IVF. Afterwards, the teacher will show the power point presentation where the detailed and precise explanation of IVF will be shown. Through that the teacher will explain the lesson and a discussion will be formed between the students and the teacher allowing, understanding and comprehension of the concept to be completed in an effective manner.

Leading on after the presentation, the teacher will then motivate the student’s about learning the new concept through showing them an interesting video which will enhance their learning and it could help them develop the concept in a better way, since visual and audio aid is provided to them. As mentioned in the chapters studied, that the world of technology helps students comprehend and capture knowledge in a much more efficient and effective way leading to success in the future only.
From the video given to them, the students will then complete an oral activity with the teacher about IVF and its basic concepts. Finishing that up, the teacher would have wrapped up her lesson of IVF and concluded her new topic with her students in a new and interesting manner, through the help of technology used within the classroom and lesson.
